A wet one in New England.

12/04/08

We are in the middle of a big two weeks for us Steelers. Last weekend we played New England and this Sunday its Dallas. First lets talk about the New England game.
More so than our recent games this past weeks game against New England was going to be a true test of what we were made of. We haven't beaten New England since 2004 and their QB Matt Cassel who had just thrown for 400+ yards in their previous two games was starting to get real comfortable in their offense.
We felt overall that if the defense could apply pressure, get some sacks, and cause turnovers we could come out on top. It didn't start out so great, early on we turned over the ball and the Patriots ended up scoring going up 7-0 in the 1st quarter. We got a field goal on the next drive making it 7-3 Patriots.
Fast forward a little bit and we were going into half time all tied at 10.
We knew that if we came out strong on defense to start the 2nd half and stayed that way letting our offense do their part we could get the victory, an dthat is exactly what happened. Things started to fall in the place and everything started to go out way. James Harrison got two sacks/forced fumbles and we scored both times, and then on the next kickoff Slater from the Patriots dropped the punt, we recovered and then scored a few plays later.
The defense continued to play well Troy and Lawrence both forced turnovers and then with 1 minute left on the clock, I was able to get #11.5 sack on the season for myself.

It turns out that James Harrison and I set a Steelers record for sacks by Outside Linebackers in one season with 25. We are looking to add to that number with the remaining games this season.
